CLASSES


Youth Learn-to-Sail Program

This is an introductory course in sailing designed for kids who:

  • Are 8-13 years old
  • Are able swimmers - there will be a swimming test the first day of class
  • Have an interest in learning to sail

The program is designed to teach:

  • Sailing terminology
  • Knot tying
  • Parts and rigging of Optimist sailboats
  • Launching and beaching
  • Points of sail
  • Self confidence in sailing by themselves in an Opti

Requirements:

  • 8-13 years of age
  • Able to swim
  • Your own Coast Guard approved PFD (life vest) that fits properly
  • Closed-toe shoes with rubber soles
  • A change of dry clothes
  • Sunscreen
  • Registration, Medical and Indemnity forms

Classes are limited to 10 students to allow each student access to his/her own Optimist sailboat for instruction on the water. Classes will be given by a US Sailing certified instructor and one assistant. Emphasis will be on safety, fun and learning! Parent support is greatly appreciated.


Youth Level II Program

This class is designed for students who have already taken the Youth Learn-to-Sail Program and continues the instruction with more emphasis on improved boat handling of an Optimist and an introduction to racing. Class will be 15-18 hours of instruction.


After School Classes

Adult Learn-to-Sail Classes

Requirements:

  • Able to swim (swim test on 1st day)
  • Close-toed shoes with rubber soles
  • Water
  • unscreen
  • Registration, Medical and Indemnity forms
